Our Culture

Our team will first and foremost consider the needs of your pet: to prevent illness and relieve disease, suffering or disability while minimizing pain and fear. We practice veterinary medicine to the highest standards set forth by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO)Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). The choice of treatments or animal care provided by Westway Animal Clinic will not be influenced by any considerations other than the needs of the patient, the welfare of the client, and the safety of the public. Ultimately, our goal is to empower our clients with knowledge and the ability to best take care of their pets. We commit to being sensitive and supportive of our clients’ decisions. All of our veterinarians will follow the regulations outlined by the CVO while our Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) will follow regulations as outlined by the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT). In the case of an emergency, our veterinarians have an ethical responsibility to provide essential services for animals when necessary to save their life, subsequent to client agreement. Such emergency care may be limited to euthanasia to relieve suffering, or to stabilization of the patient for transport to another source of animal care. If a veterinarian is not available to provide service, we will have information available for the client, to assist them in obtaining emergency services in a timely and geographically appropriate manner. If a certain emergency requires expertise or equipment unavailable at Westway Animal Clinic, the client and patient will be advised immediately, and, every effort will be made to refer them to a location where services/equipment required would be available.

Cosmetic Interventions

Westway Animal Clinic will not perform any surgical or other procedure for the purpose of altering the natural appearance of an animal for non-therapeutic reasons. This includes, but is not limited to, ear cropping, tail docking and hind-foot declaws in cats. We consider these procedures to be unethical.

Genetic Defects

Westway Animal Clinic will not perform any surgical or other procedure for the purpose of concealing genetic defects in animals to be shown, raced, bred, or sold as breeding animals. We consider this unethical. Should the health or welfare of the individual patient require correction of such genetic defects, it will be recommended that the patient be rendered incapable of reproduction.

Suspected Animal Abuse Or Neglect

In accordance with the CVO Guideline on Reporting Suspected Animal Abuse or Neglect, the Westway Animal Clinic team will report any situation in which we feel the welfare of an animal is in question.
